Your Skin-Prep Guide for Longer Lasting Makeup

by Sodashi Skincare

The key to long-lasting makeup isn't just about the perfect combination of setting powders or sprays, but the skin-prep you layer underneath! Here's how to achieve a radiant complexion that keeps your makeup looking flawless all day long.

1. Clean Your Canvas

A clean canvas is essential for makeup to adhere properly. Start with a gentle cleanser such as our Clay Cleanser with Lavender to remove impurities. This ensures your skin remains balanced and ready for the next steps in your routine, without stripping your skin's natural oils.

2. Exfoliate For a Smooth Base

This step isn't essential with every makeup application, but it is certainly recommended to incorporate a mild exfoliant into your routine 2-3 times a week. Using a gentle exfoliant such as our Brightening Face Drops will help buff and remove dead skin to reveal a smoother base.

Exfoliating your skin before makeup application will help enhance your skin's natural glow and allow makeup to glide on effortlessly.

3. Hydration-Station

Ensuring your skin is well-hydrated is non-negotiable! Use a nourishing moisturiser that best suits your skin type. This helps to plump the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and creating a smooth base for foundation.

Dry Skin
Our Rejuvenating Face & Neck Moisturiser will be the best fit for your skin type. It will help reduce signs of dryness, improve skin texture and hydrate any dry patches.

Oily Skin
If you've got oily skin, you still need to hydrate your skin. We recommend choosing a product that gives you a good hydration boost while maintaining even moisture such as our Balancing Face & Neck Moisturiser. It's the perfect lightweight moisturiser that helps balance sebum and hydrates without overwhelming the skin.

Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin sufferers may want to opt in for a gentler moisturiser that reduces redness and irritation while giving the perfect amount of nourishment such as our Calming Face & Neck Moisturiser.

4. Say "NO!" to Cakey Eyes

There's nothing worse than when you've completed your makeup look and it's starting to look thick and heavy, particularly around the eye area.

If your eyes require something a little heavier duty (especially if you're going for a bolder makeup look), we suggest using our Eye Lifting Gel to help smooth the skin and brighten dark circles. It will also help your eye-makeup last longer!

If you're concerned about fine-lines around the eyes, our Eye & Lip Smoother is a must-have product in your skin-prep routine. A little goes a long way! Simply apply a light coat under and around the eye area. Our Eye & Lip Smoother will not only refresh the gentle skin around the eye, but it also reduces puffiness, fine lines and dark circles.

Having chapped lips can be uncomfortable, especially if you’re considering applying a matte lipstick or liquid lipstick. Apply the Eye & Lip Smoother on and around the lip area, wait for it to absorb and then lightly blot off any extra with a tissue. It will help your lipstick go on smoothly and last longer!

5. Mist is a Must

Once you've completed the above steps, generously spritz our Calming Rose Face Mist to set the skincare base.

Throughout the day, your skin can lose moisture causing your makeup to settle or fade. Keep our Calming Rose Face Mist on hand for an instant refresh and for the perfect dewy finish!

Achieving long-lasting makeup is all about the synergy between good skin-prep and your favourite cosmetic products. By investing in a solid skin-prep routine, you'll not only enhance the longevity of your makeup but also promote overall skin health.

Remember, the best makeup looks start with well-prepped skin!
