It’s true cleansing your face is as important as brushing your teeth, it’s a non-negotiable if you want healthy, glowing skin. We’ve all been there, after a long day or a night out with the girls it can be tempting to skip cleansing and jump into bed…but know this, it will impact your skin health.
Most women use sunscreen and make-up which are great for protecting and enhancing the skin but during the day your skin accumulates a build-up of dirt, pollution and oil that sits on the surface. And that’s not even factoring in the 800 times a day the average person touches their face. If you skip cleansing your allowing this surface debris to linger on the skin and can lead to irritation, congestion and breakouts.
A regular and consistent cleansing routine is your first and most important step to better skin. It’s an act of self-care and essential for supporting skin health and functions. You are removing the sweat, dirt, debris and makeup revealing a fresh canvas for the rest of your skincare, allowing your serums and moisturisers to absorb properly and do their best work.
Which Cleanser should I use?
Natural, gentle and botanical-based cleansers work in harmony with the skin’s microbiome and are more beneficial than harsh cleansers with synthetic chemical ingredients that remove not only dirt and makeup but the skin’s natural oils disrupting the balance of the skin.
This is why I love using Sodashi cleansers, not only do they smell divine, but they are non-foaming, beautifully textured cleansers that melt away impurities while respecting the skin’s delicate barrier.
Sodashi cleansers are formulated with organically derived and natural ingredients like argiletz clay, pomegranate, sandalwood and lavender plus they are infused with plant oils like Macadamia and Jojoba that are a natural emollient replenishing the skin and preventing moisture loss. Sodashi cleansers leave your skin feeling fresh, soft, supple and ready for the application of your serums or moisturisers.

Tips for Optimal Cleansing
- Cleansing should always feel comfortable, start by choosing a gentle and natural formula that is suited to your skin type.
- Avoid harsh foaming cleansers they usually contain sulfates that leave your skin feeling tight or dry. If your skin feels squeaky clean you may have stripped the skin of important natural oils.
- Don’t use soap formulated for the body to wash your face – Body soaps aren’t designed for the delicate skin on your face. And can contain strong synthetic cleansers that strip the skin causing breakouts or irritation.
- Cleanse twice a day. The morning cleanse refreshes the skin and removes oil, while an evening cleanse will remove sunscreen, make-up, dirt, surface impurities. Leaving your skin more hydrated and ready for the rest of your routine.
- Double Cleansing, if performed is for the evening only when your skin has sunscreen, makeup and impurities to wash away. It’s not necessary in the morning.
- For those with oily or congested skin, leaving your cleanser on for a few minutes especially if it contains enzymes or clay will give your skin a deeper clean.
- Use lukewarm water to remove it’s a good mid-range temperature. Hot water can strip your skins natural oils.
- Follow your cleanse with products that meet your specific skin needs or concerns.
Make facial cleansing with good skincare a part of your daily routine, you will discover it really is the foundation of radiant skin.
