Some skincare wisdom passed onto me when I was young was that serums and moisturisers shouldn’t finish at my jawline and to always extend them down my neck and across my decolletage. Noticing the changes in my skin that come with time, I’m grateful for this foresight that helped shape my early skincare rituals.
A zone that requires attention
The skin on the neck and decolletage is anatomically thinner than on our face which means it has less structural support. The area also naturally has fewer oil glands and is subject to constant movement and sun exposure. This unique combination of factors means our neck and decolletage area is quite vulnerable and needs consistent care just like the face.
However, when applying skincare, for some reason often our face will be the focus and the neck and decolletage is neglected, yet these delicate areas are typically first to show signs of aging which can lead to the face and neck looking mismatched. Those years of missed care and protection will be visible with fine lines and creasing, loss of elasticity, dehydration and premature ageing due to higher sun exposure.
One continuous canvas
Sodashi Face & Neck Moisturisers have been designed to honour this philosophy of treating face neck and decolletage consistently, so nourishment seamlessly extends giving all areas the attention they need.
If you have sometimes overlooked your neck and decolletage in your daily ritual and feel you need to work on restoring them, I would start embracing face, neck & decolletage as one. All key skincare - especially serums, moisturisers and sun protection, should flow through giving your neck and decolletage the same level of care as your face so it can also be smooth, nourished and radiant.
Foundations of good neck & decolletage care
1. Extend your skincare down – Cleansers, serums, moisturisers and sun protection should flow down from the jawline to include neck and decollete.
2. Treat at home – Replenish the skin with gentle upward massage movements, applying your serum followed by a deeply hydrating mask like Plant Essence Repair Mask
3. Professional Facial - Book a facial with your local spa, ensure you discuss any concerns you have regarding neck & decolletage with your therapist. They will treat this area with extra care, exfoliation, massage and apply a specific mask to restore moisture and revitalise.
4. Sun protection - Always use natural sun protection or cover up if exposed to the elements for long periods.
5. Sleep on your back- If able sleeping on your back prevents pressure lines and creases.
